When I first heard about ACEF and saw pictures of these children, many orphans, abandoned, neglected, undernourished and abused, my heart broke. God blessed me with a wonderful and loving childhood. I recall Christ’s words “To whom much is given, much is expected.” I knew I wanted to help. Sometimes I’m overwhelmed by the severity of suffering in this world, especially the children. Then I see the pictures of Juliana, whose elementary education I have financed for the past eighteen months. She seems so happy now, smiles have replaced her tears, and her eyes are bright and hopeful. She writes to me how much she loves learning and going to school. She is so appreciative. She calls me Mum and wants me to be proud of her, and I am. We can make a difference in this world, one child at a time. Thank God for ACEF and the miracles that are occurring in the lives of these children.

I feel grateful and truly blessed for the wonderful feeling that I get from the opportunity to contribute to the education of a child through the Africana Children's Education Fund (ACEF). I was able to pursue my education beyond a small and rural high school in Georgia largely because of the efforts of my Mother. I eventually earned a PhD, as a colleague of Peter Osei-Kwame, one of the Board members at ACEF Inc. It is truly wonderful to think that such a small contribution I make through ACEF makes such a big difference in the life of a wonderful young man and his family in Ghana. I am blessed to know that Francis can continue his education and that he wants to become a doctor! I am committed to helping him and his family do that.

I've been a part of the founding of Africana Children's Eductation Fund since it's conception two years ago. While helping Dr. Peter Osei Kwame start the program, I realized there was a part that I could play too. I decided to support one teenage girl Cecilia. Her father had just died and was being raised by her mother who could not afford her tuition fees in the local High School. She is a beautiful teenager who not only needed tuition assistance but needed encouragement and motivation to cope with her loss. I did not want Cecilia to be overwhelmed with her loss and become a High School dropout. I am the mother of 3 daughters, all of whom have achieved college education. I wanted Cecilia also to get the college education she intends to get. She wants to get an MBA degree and open her own business. In June 2007, Cecilia is graduating from high school and will hopefully be on her way to college. I am blessed in knowing that I had a small part to play in making Cecilia’s dream come true. For just $50 a month, Cecilia has an opportunity for a better future. For that I am grateful. It has been money well spent.

I began sponsoring one girl in ACEF two years ago. A few months later I began sponsoring her older sister. Having a grand daughter myself, I wondered what it would be like for her to lack the opportunities that are denied the children of ACEF. The girls write me letters from Ghana and are so very appreciative. They do so well in school and especially the older one assures me my support will not be in vain and she will try very hard to earn it. That makes it all worth it. I truly believe only education will make a difference in their lives.

For the past year and a half I have had the pleasure of supporting Patrick in Ghana. He is an older teenager and I felt that he needed a last chance to get an education before he reached adulthood. He has pleased me very well with his efforts. His grades are good and his letters to me are well written. When my family were immigrants in the late 1800's they knew that the road to success for their children was education. I believe that this is especially true for the laboring class in Africa. It is important for the success and peace of the various nations in Africa. I am glad that I am able to make a difference in one young life and expect him to make a difference for himself, his country, and his own future children. ACEF contributions are fully deductible and, like all sponsors, I get a statement of giving after the end of the year.

When I look at the photos of the ACEF children, I remember my childhood days in Guinea, West Africa, where I was born and raised. I know firsthand the poverty and the deprivation facing these children. I sponsor one of them and I would encourage anybody who can afford a few dollars a month to do so. It is a good cause.
